Open House Quiz Competition; where about more than 120 participants
Bhubaneswar:11.07 Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar is one of the constituent units of National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. The main objective of the council is to propagate science among people in large and students in particular.World Population Day is an annual event observed every year on the 11 th of July to spread awareness about the increasing population and its impact on society, nations and environment. The day came into existence when the
world population reached 500 crores in 1987, intending to address the public
interest and educate the people about the population issues like benefits of
family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, human rights, etc.On this occasion Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar organized an
interactive session on the theme of “Rising World Population and the effect on our Natural Resources” by Shri Bansidhar Mohapatra, ISS, Retd. Asst.
Director, National Sample Survey of India, Bhubaneswar. During the
session Shri Mohapatra presented his views about the relevance of the day
and the challenges like food scarcity, adverse effect of increasing population
on the environment, natural resources and he also talked about the possible
solutions to deal with. This was followed by an Open House Quiz Competition;
where about more than 120 participants took part in an interactive manner.
The event ended with a debate on the topic “The population explosion is a
boon or bane.”
Keeping in mind the greater interest of the students’ community, Regional
