Mega Blood Donation Camp Organized by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Marks a Successful Endeavor

Bhubaneswar, September 14, 2023 – The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation achieved a remarkable milestone in public health by hosting a Mega Blood Donation Camp today. The event, inaugurated by Honorable Mayor Mrs. Sulochana Das and Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange, witnessed tremendous support from the community.

During the Mega Blood Donation Camp, BMC demonstrated its commitment to public health by collecting a total of 199 units of blood. Notably, 35 women generously donated blood, reflecting the diversity of donors and their collective dedication to saving lives.

Blood donation is a lifeline for those in need, and it is estimated that one donation can save up to three lives. In light of the ongoing dengue outbreak in the state, where platelets are in high demand, this camp played a vital role in bolstering emergency blood banks. Honorable Mayor Mrs. Das emphasized the significance of voluntary blood donation, stating, “If everyone volunteered to donate blood, there would be no loss of life due to a shortage of blood.”

The BMC’s Mega Blood Donation Camp extended its reach across 67 wards, not only facilitating blood collection but also educating the public on the critical importance of blood donation for public health. The Commissioner, Vijay Amruta Kulange, expressed his gratitude to the community for their unwavering support during times of need and encouraged continued cooperation for future BMC initiatives.

In a symbolic gesture of leadership and commitment to the cause, BMC’s Deputy Commissioner for Health and Sanitation, Dr. Manoranjan Sahu, was the first official to donate blood during the event. Many BMC employees, corporators, and volunteers from various organizations followed suit, contributing to the overall success of the camp.

This voluntary blood donation initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and its role in saving lives. The collaborative effort of BMC, with the support of Dr. Debasish Mishra, Dr. Suman Sundaray, Dr. Sudesna Sahu, Dr. Rajkanth Sahu, Dr. Deepak Yanam, Dr. Nitish Kumar Dhal, CPM Neha Rajpaswal, and the Capital Blood Bank team, City Health Society, Nursing Officer, and numerous healthcare workers, ensured the smooth execution of the camp.

The coordination and management of these efforts were led by Additional Commissioner Mr. Subhendu Kumar Sahu and Shikharchandi Medical Officer Dr. Deepak Yanam.
