Bhubaneswar, 08-08-2024″Every driver is a member of my family. I always take their welfare seriously,” said Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Minister of Commerce and Transport, while addressing the gathering during a felicitation program organized by the Driver’s Federation at the office of the Regional Transport Officer, Bhubaneswar-1. The Minister emphasized that the government is considerately addressing the demands of the Drivers.
During the event, Under the leadership of Odisha Driver Mahasangha representatives from various transport associations across the state were present, along with Transport commissioner Amitabh Thakur and senior officials of the Transport Department.
The Minister was briefed on various demands from the Driver’s association. He assured that the government is attentive to the needs of the drivers. Measures are being taken to make the Odisha Motor Transport Driver and Worker Welfare Board more effective. Active members will be included in this board, the Minister stated. He also highlighted the steps being taken by the government to improve road safety, where drivers have a crucial role to play. The Minister urged everyone to work together in reducing accidents and encouraged the Driver’s Federation to raise awareness among all drivers about road safety regulations.
To curb disorderly parking on highways, 23 truck terminals are being constructed where trucks can park, and drivers can rest. The state also has four heavy vehicle training centers where free driving training is provided. These facilities are available to all drivers. The Minister called for collective efforts to create an accident-free Odisha, assuring that the government will extend all necessary support to the drivers.
