Bhubaneswar:Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar a unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), is the first regional level science centre in the state of Odisha. Since its inception, the centre has been attracting a large number of visitors, especially school students, from all over the state and has been playing a key role in realizing the national goal of inclusive ‘Science education for all’ through Mobile Science Exhibitions, Science Demonstrations, S&T based galleries, Training and Workshops, etc.
World Elephant Day is observed on July 12th August every yearto raise awareness for elephant conservation and protection of their natural habitats. Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar organised a slew of events to sensitize and create interest among the masses. An interactive session by Dr.Swetashree Purohit, Asst. Professor, Department of Agriculture and Allied Sciences (Zoology) of C.V. Raman Global University, Bhubaneswar. The interaction highlighted the important aspects of Elephant’s behaviour and measures to safeguarding Elephant Habitats for a Sustainable ecosystem. She also made reference to some steps which can be taken to mitigate the menace. She sensitized the audience with many case studies on abandoned calves and how human care plays a key role. A quiz session was also conducted for the students. Programme ended with a vote of thanks by Sh. Kapil Jain, Project Coordinator, Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar. He wished that the session would bring a positive change in the society regarding the importance of conserving and protecting elephants for maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
